The way that we speak to elders matters. Researchers have found that many professionals and family members use “elderspeak” when they communicate with elders. This is a form of childlike talk, and using it has been shown to have harmful effects on the elder. Investigate this phenomenon by locating three primary research studies on elderspeak or other harmful communication patterns. Be sure to explain how elderspeak affects the elder (consequences) and what research says professionals and family members should do instead.
Use this article as one of your sources (this means you will find two more on your own and report their findings to the class).

Do not use websites that sell products as a source for this discussion. Share with the class the findings from the research you read. Next, read and reply to the posts of at least two other students. Three replies are needed for an exemplary on interaction.
Initial posts should be a minimum of 200 words. Replies to classmates should be at least 175 words. All posts must include APA style in-text citations as well as complete references. Do not list any reference unless you used it in the post. Your posts should show evidence of analysis and critical thinking, and the ability to use scholarly sources, as opposed to presenting an opinion.
This discussion is worth 75 points toward your final grade and will be graded using the Discussion Rubric. Please use it as a guide toward the successful completion of this discussion.
